The Museum of Transport was the second most visited transport museum in the UK. Each year it welcomed on average 500,000 visitors. The museum, although popular could not continue to house the collection in a long-term and stable environment. In Spring 2011 the Museum of Transport will move to its new home: The Riverside Museum. Designed by leading architect Zaha Hadid CBE, the museum will present the collection in a breathtaking landmark building on the banks of the River Clyde. It will redisplay the collection in a more accessible way and ensure its long term viability. The Riverside Museum is anticipated to welcome 800,000 visitors in its first year of operation. |
